Let Things Come to You

“Let things come to you and be confident that everything will come when the time is right”. I heard Byron Katie express this concept many times during the ten days that I recently spent at her school for “The Work” in Germany.

At one point in the classroom she was describing something and couldn’t find a word. Then she stopped and smiled lovingly at us saying, “If we can’t remember something, there is no need to beat ourselves up. It simply means that we don’t need the information yet – it will come when the time is right”.

Dreamstime_14665971 (sm) Too often we’ll say, “I’m so stupid. I can’t believe that I can’t remember that.” We should just sit back and wait for the memory to find us – it’s not ours to control. This attitude is part of what Byron Katie calls the “new paradigm” and I think it is a fine example of feminine energy.

Masculine energy is all about making things happen and it is in a hurry – wanting everything NOW! Feminine energy is its polar opposite…content to relax and allow things to unfold. Intellectually, I knew this but I really experienced it at this school. Byron Katie constantly stressed that it is a friendly universe and we don’t have to push for outcomes. We will get what we need, when we need it.

Sometimes it is enough to look deeply into the eyes of another or to walk slowly in nature, drinking in its beauty. If we spend time in silence, answers will come from the deepest part of us and then we can act upon them. Under such circumstances masculine energy isn’t lost but rather is motivated by the wisdom and compassion that comes from the feminine. Action that flows from inner to outer has more clarity and less confusion.

So you see these, poles aren’t enemies to one another. They are wonderful partners. When they work together in each of us we can let things find us and, when they do, we can act with the conviction that we are taking the best action at the most appropriate time. Wouldn’t that be a relief?
